Playing Rules
Keep
this as a reference for LGB games.

Attire:
Black Shorts with Striped Shirt, preferably black shoes, certainly not
baby
blue.
Federation
rules will be used with the following specific
exceptions for ALL grades:
·
Prior to game time, each
coach will
arrange for an adult (over the age of 18) to serve as official
timekeeper or
scorekeeper.
·
Each player has required
playing
time. A "draw" (using playing
cards) is used to determine playing time and conducted by a league
commissioner
before the game.
·
There is NO penalty for
adding a late
arriving player in the scorebook.
·
No jewelry of any kind,
including pierced
earrings/studs, metal or hard objects may be worn in the hair –
this also
includes bows (per Rule 3, Article 2)
·
Games are 4 six-minute
quarters with at
least one minute allowed between quarters and overtime periods and a
two-minute
half time. Teams will be given at least
five (5) minutes to warm-up.
·
Overtime period(s) are TWO
minutes in
length.
·
No 30-second (or 20-second)
time-outs. Four (4) one-minute timeouts
with an additional time-out per overtime period. Do
not
resume play before the end of the time-out unless BOTH teams are ready.
·
An injured player may
continue to play
even if the coach is beckoned onto the court.
An injured player's coach may choose to complete a quarter with
only 4
players on the floor.
·
Only white
T-shirts may be worn under LGB uniforms.
3rd-5th
grades:
·
All must play 2 complete
quarters (start
to finish) unless injured. All players
must sit out one complete quarter.
o
3rd-4th
grade free throws: shot from the bottom of the free-throw circle. If it’s not marked, then three (3) feet
in
front of the regulation free-throw line is the free throw line.
o
5th
grade: regulation free throw line
o
The
3-second lane area begins from the bottom of the free throw line,
parallel to
the end line.
·
Made three-point shot
attempts count only
if the court is marked with a three point line.
·
If, after the first
overtime period, the
score remains tied, then the first team to score in the second (or
subsequent)
overtime period will be the winner (sudden death).
·
A full court press defense
is allowed by
either team only during the last THREE minutes of the game (and
includes
overtime) regardless of the score. For
the first two violations of this rule, the offensive team will be
allowed a
5-foot unhindered throw-in at the mid-court sideline.
On the third and all subsequent violations
(prior to the last three minutes of the game and overtime periods), a
technical
foul will be assessed against the pressing team.
6th – 8th
grades:
·
All players are required to
play one
complete quarter (start to finish), all are required to sit out one
complete
quarter (start to finish). This rule,
and the “draw” rule will be handled by a commissioner of
the league.
·
6th grade only:
A full court
press defense is allowed by either team only during the 4th
quarter and overtime. The press must
be called off when the leading team is up by 10 points. The
press may be reinstituted when the lead drops to FOUR
points. For the
first two violations of this rule, the offensive team will be allowed a
5-foot
unhindered throw-in at the mid-court sideline.
On the third and all subsequent violations, a technical foul
will be
assessed against the pressing team.

Overtime: two minutes in
length with an
additional time out (1-minute) for each overtime period.
Overtime periods will be played until the
score is untied.
9th – 12th
grades:
No
substitutions are allowed during the first quarter of the game, all
players
sitting out the first quarter will play the entire game.
The opposing coach will pick from the first
quarter players, as many players as needed to
comprise
the second quarter five players.
